paveMICRO PAVE

Micro Pave is a relatively new technique and currently practiced by a small group of setters in the UK. Jessica is one of the very few female Micro Pave setters in the U.K and uses this beautiful mode of diamond setting extensively throughout her work.

Jessica was given a Queen Elizabeth Scholarship which afforded her the time to spend three and a half months in Antwerp, Belgium, training with a Master Diamond setter. The intense, 6 day week tuition happened in a state of the art workshop, equipped with microscopes, camera and specialised engraving equipment. The technique of using a multitude of tiny stones lends itself particularly well to Jessica’s fluid forms and soft clean lines. She uses these lines of “diamond light” in such a way that the stones become an integral part of the piece rather than the main focus of it.

First developed by the Swiss approximately 30 years ago to set diamonds into watch bezels, it was quickly picked up by the jewellery trade. This technique requires state of the art equipment and months of intensive training to master the basic skills needed. Micro pave is practiced under a microscope to allow precise work with stones as small as 0.5mm. Jessica will often fashion a tool by hand to suit a particular job or make a tiny drill bit as it is not possible to buy anything so specialised.

Micro Pave is at its best when each and every setting looks exactly like the one next to it. When set together in this precise manner these minute stones create a sea of diamonds or a ring of light that is like no other. Pushed over every tiny stone and barely visible to the naked eye are four little grains that have been individually created to hold each diamond in place. Micro pave is an incredibly time consuming technique and therefore Jessica uses only the most exquisite Collection Quality diamonds. Each one of Jessica’s tiny diamonds is a true brilliant cut, each with 52 individual facets which reflect the light from each other to give unparalleled sparkle.
