Whether its a bespoke engagement ring, remodelling a sentimental heirloom or designing that unique piece of jewellery you have always wanted, Jessica will work closely with you to ensure that the commission will meet each of your individual requirements.

Each jewellery commission begins with a one to one discussion. Depending on your location that may be a meeting with Jessica in the workshop, a conversation via telephone, Skype or over email. From this initial meeting Jessica will establish your needs and create a brief to work from to begin the design process. She will then put pencil to paper and present some initial sketches to you, these ideas can be refined until a final design is settled upon. It is helpful to have a budget at this stage in the process so that Jessica can design within this boundary.

If a large diamond or coloured gemstone is part of the design Jessica will source a selection for you to choose from as qualities and characteristics of precious stones can vary greatly. (See our Choosing a Gemstone page) Jessica studied with the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) and earned a qualification in gem identification and handling. This has given her both the knowledge and confidence when dealing with precious stones to help you select the best and most appropriate stone for your piece of jewellery. Large diamonds will be certificated.

Once a design is agreed upon you will be given a quote for the piece and asked to make a deposit before the making can begin. Depending on the final design a silver model may be required or you may be asked to view the work in stages to make any final design decisions. Commissioning allows you to become part of the whole design process from concept to creation and to be able to fully appreciate the craftsmanship as your piece progresses.

As every piece of jewellery is made by hand in house, Jessica will often have a full order book. Each bespoke item presents new design challenges and these special items take time to create. It is important to remember that the commission process is often not a quick one and completion time is often an estimate. As every piece is unique the length of time it takes to create can vary greatly. The design process can be lengthy, unusual stones can take weeks to source, the intricacy of the piece demands more hours at the bench or simply it may be a busy time of year. If you require your jewellery for a special date please make sure that you discuss this with Jessica at the beginning to avoid disappointment.
